Ready to take a journey through the Magical Forest? Join Shirley Dougan at the Mixed Media Art Studio as she leads you through a fun workshop to create a Magical Forest canvas, highlighting your own style and colour preferences.
The workshop includes detailed step-by-step instructions to create a start-to-finish canvas, with a process that you can replicate again and again.
We will start by covering our canvas in a free and easy way, followed with layers of paint using purchased and home made tools to add depth and interest. Finally, we will bring it together with some simple painting techniques to reveal your trees and create magic effects.
No advance skills are required as Shirley leads you through the process to create a fabulous Magical Forest canvas that is uniquely your own.
The class is run at the light-filled Mixed Media Arts Studio, in Mt Waverley (see here for details) Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

More about Shirley Dougan
Since completing a Bachelor of Education (Arts & Crafts), Shirley has been involved with art in many ways. She has travelled throughout Australia and the USA teaching in various mediums to students in hobbyist courses, whilst practising and developing her own artistic skills.
Passionate about promoting art in the local community, Shirley is the current President of the Ferntree Gully Arts Society a position she has held for five years. She was also a valued member of the Knox City Council’s Knox Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee as a voice for visual arts within the Knox region.
Relatively new to painting, Shirley prefers to paint in acrylics and watercolour, however, she has dabbled in many other mediums. Her style ranges from small realistic watercolour and coloured pencil sketches, to larger acrylic works using a combination of hand-shaped tools (made from recycled industrial materials), and paintbrushes to make multi-layered artworks. The outcome can be intriguing and interesting in what she calls a “colourful but recognisable style”.
“I work mainly in acrylic paints as I love the quickness of the drying time and have been developing my style over the past few years. My current work is of animals, although I also do some abstract work, which is based upon my long love affair with maps.”
Shirley currently runs a weekly teens art class and runs school holiday art classes for primary school kids.
Her adult painting workshops are fun and friendly with an emphasis on “do-able for beginners” as well as creating something beautiful that students are proud to hang on their walls.
